For THE CORAL REEF SERIES, Hegen took photographs of coral reefs that suffer from coral bleaching, an effect of global warming. >>

“In 2020, the Great Barrier Reef suffers for the third time in five years from mass coral bleaching. When bleaching is severe, many corals die. According to scientists, coral bleaching is now affecting around 60 percent of the Great Barrier Reef. Due to climate change, summers are getting hotter and will cause more and more mass bleaching. The Great Barrier Reef will continue to lose corals until global climate change will be under control and sea temperatures stabilize. Without taking urgent actions, facing climate change, coral reefs will not survive.” (Tom Hegen) >>
