Concentrating on the specific plastic object of the football, Barker’s PENALTY creates images to highlight the issue of marine pollution. 760 footballs were gathered from 144 beaches across 41 countries to create awareness of the global nature of the problem of plastic waste in the oceans and the questionable treatment of plastic waste. The title of the series of works has a double meaning alluding to a penalty in football and the penalty we will all pay if we do not manage the problem of plastics in the world’s oceans. >>
