Knecht’s work UNVERÄNDERUNG (engl. unchanged) consists of 98 handcrafted thermometers whose scales show temperatures of two degrees Celsius less than the actual temperature. Thereby, the artwork hints at the 2010 UN Climate Change Conference in Cancún, where the goal limiting of global average temperature to two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels was established. Photographs and a book that depict the artist’s manufacture of the thermometers record the technical production – which actually never happened in this way. This fabricated documentation of the artwork’s origin is a key part of the work. >> >>
